ERCA Software Engineer

Location: Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey
Employment Type: Full-Time

Total Technology has a full-time position available, in Picatinny Arsenal, for a software engineer with 2-4 years of experience. This person will provide project support for development of weapon system components for the Extended Range Cannon Artillery family of programs within Picatinny Arsenal. The candidate will be involved in all phases of the program.


  • Perform the following:

    • Create and review Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams and documentation for architectures including sensors, encoders, resolvers, linear tranducers, as well as Ethernet, CAN, SMBus/I2C, and discrete and analog signals

    • Engineering support in the form of the development of software and firmware to enable function, diagnostics, and testing of distributed automated actuation systems in C programming languages on both Keil PK51 for 8051-derived targets and QNX Momentics for QNX x86 targets

    • Engineering support in the form of the maintenance of electrical designs, architectures, and technical data packages

    • Engineering support in the form of the creation and maintenance of software architectures for distributed automated actuation systems

    • Support integration work with Cadence PCB Designer Electrical CAD (ECAD) software

  • Resolve complex technical problems related to hardware and software issues with various networks and systems

  • Responsibilities will also include meeting customer demands on a daily basis.

  • Follow standard operating procedures, conform to established policies and standards, while using techniques, and standards for guidance.


  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 2-4 years of experience with troubleshooting weapons systems

  • Experience with Cadence PCB Designer required

  • Experience with C programming required

  • Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML) required

  • Familiarity with Keil PK51 and QNX Momentics actuation systems required

  • Proficiency with basic mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic, electrical and software concepts

  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and relationship skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well within a team

  • Highly detail oriented with excellent organizational skills

  • Please note that US Citizenship is required to work on a military installation.
